    Timer Device

    A design (Patent pending

    US 61/690

    227) for a mechanical timer has been invented that can be utilized for the measurement and indication of various time intervals. The timer device can

but does not have to be integrated into other devices or the containers in which they are supplied. Timing intervals of typical use would be 15 seconds through 5 minutes

and the timer can be demarked to show intermediate time intervals. The devices are reusable

and the patent design allows for simple changes that result in varying the total time interval.\n\nExamples of uses of the timer invention are: Toothpaste tubes

    soap containers

    hair coloring kits

    teeth whitening strips

    liquid hand soap dispensers

    mouth rinses

    nail polish and remover

    chemical depilatories

and many other items requiring accurate timing. Other non-personal care uses include 2-part adhesives

    wood stains

    glue dispensers

    tea cups or packages

    coffee

    sonication devices

    correction fluid and cleaning devices.\n

    Timer Device

Timing Device for the science of \"two minute\" brushing cycles.

    Doctor of Philosophy (Ph.D.)

My doctoral dissertation focused on the rhetorical appropriation of Asian \"mystical\" literature and meditation practices

found amongst contemporary American dance and performance artists.\n\nTranslation: As a young grad student back in the '80's

I wanted to learn about the neurocognitive mechanics of the creative process and dig deeper into epistemological questions of creative thinking as a legitimate way of knowing and problem- solving. \n\nMy doctoral research asked the question: Why did American dancers and artists feel the need to \"go Asian\" and bring meditation into the training of artists?\n\nI've spent my career working to understand the brain/mind basis of creative thinking and problem solving

especially impacted by contemplative practice. Today I look back on my dissertation as the work of a historian

ethnologist and budding systems thinker with a skeptic's eye.

Future of Work World Building Residency

What if we reimagined Los Angeles as a walking city in 2027?\nWhat if aging citizens could remain in their homes retrofitted to be caretaking smart?\nWhat if Los Angeles cultural communities could learn about their ancestral homes via Virtual Reality tours?\n\nThese and other world-building provocations were set forth in the 2017 Future of Work World Building Residency addressing Los Angeles 2027 -- a year before the World Olympics.\n\nI served as a Special Advisor

lending insights from the art and science of spatial memory and design research skills to assist the artists in residence.\n\nTo learn more about the project:\n\nhttps://www.sundance.org/blogs/designing-the-future-of-work-new-frontier-world-building-residency-in-los-angeles

    In this paper

we introduce GamerLab™ as an innovative way to train present and future generations of virtual architects by transforming architectural design education into an “affinity space” within higher education. We consider online

infinite game models to incentivize research

    reward creativity

and promote collaboration and achievement in architectural design practices. We show how within university level design education

games and gamification offer an invaluable theoretical and practical solution to pedagogic problems entertained by architects and other design professionals. We support this claim by turning to cognitive science which shows how our human brain actually learns and extrapolates for creative problem-solving.
