I loved college and did not want to leave. So what did I do? Started working in one.
After my undergrad experience, like many other 21-22 year olds, I did not know what I wanted to do. I kicked around for a while obtaining various “career” oriented positions (including one epic fail in sales) and I discovered that I was not really connecting with these jobs. I was not finding any joy in anything that I was doing.
Until one summer, I applied and got a position at a college as a Career Specialist, and I never looked back. Working with college students has been a truly rewarding and fulfilling career. My passion is career development, but I have experienced many different areas such as; coaching, teaching, parent relations, advising and orientation, all of which has shaped me into the professional that I am today.
Now? I run a wonderful office that assists with academic advising, student support services (i.e. tutoring) and career development. I also teach career development theories and best practices and obtained certification in assessments, such as the MBTI and Strong Interest Inventory. Most importantly, I get to help students achieve their goals, academically and professionally.
