California State University Long Beach - Health Science
The Pulmonary Hypertension Association (PHA) is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization, serving more than 16,000 members and supporters. Our mission is to find ways to prevent and cure pulmonary hypertension, and to provide hope for the pulmonary hypertension community through support, education, research, advocacy and awareness. My goal is to bring awareness to this rare disease for the purpose of increasing support for research. On a personal level, I aim to honor my sister, Rachel Hoyt, who died from this terrible disease at the age of 24.
Director, Center for Health Equity Research and Assistant Professor, Department of Health Science
The Center for Health Equity Research (CHER) is located in the College of Health and Human Services at California State University, Long Beach (CSULB). CHER promotes health equity by engaging researchers and community partners in conducting rigorous and innovative public health research. Center staff and affiliated faculty have extensive experience in community-based research and evaluation with a focus on health equity. My primary research interests are racial and ethnic health disparities and specifically, the relationships between social discrimination and health. In addition to overseeing CHER and helping to facilitate a research institute funded by the NIH, I serve as a member of the Long Beach Building Healthy Communities Learning and Evaluation Team. I have over twenty-five years’ experience in the development, administration, and evaluation of public and community health agencies and programs.
The Poly Baseball Booster Club works to raise funds to support the Poly Baseball Program.
