Kylie is currently a PhD student in Criminology and has her Masters in Criminology from Simon Fraser University. Before attending SFU, she received her Bachelor of Arts from Ryerson University in Psychology with a minor in Criminal Justice.
Kylie's background experience reflects her desire to pursue research, specifically in areas involving psychological aspects of crime, detection avoidance strategies and criminal profiling. Kylie is determined, goal-oriented and passionate about research. She values hard work, independent and critical thinking, and enjoys collaborating on projects with others.
Thus far, Kylie has contributed to the field in the form of poster and panel presentations at academic conferences and co-authored peer-reviewed publications. In addition, Kylie has been involved with a research project examining recidivism in community released sex offenders at the Centre for Addiction and Mental Health. Kylie has also volunteered as a research assistant with the Criminal and Investigative Research and Analysis Group (CIR&A) and the Brain Imaging and Memory (BIM) Lab at Ryerson University.
Ultimately, Kylie's career goals involve conducting on-going research in the field, provide consulting to police and related agencies, and to teach at the university level.
Undergraduate Volunteer Research Assistant
- Collaborated on a cross-cultural study examining learning and health outcomes in smokers, in partnership with University College London in London, England
- Tasks included organizing and maintaining the study via-email correspondence amongst multiple researchers, as well as assisting with ethics and amendments/study protocol, participant recruitment via SONA (online student recruitment system) and by posting flyers in the community, also pre-screened community recruitment participants via telephone interview
- Tested participants through computerized testing, and questionnaires/interviews (including the beck depression inventory)
- Trained new RA on study protocol, testing procedures, data collection/coding
Undergraduate Volunteer Research Assistant Level 2
- Data collection, coding, and analysis for a case study published in the Journal of Investigative Psychology and Offender Profiling. This was also presented as a poster at two conferences, winning for best poster and best brief talk
- Other tasks involved overseeing data entry of level 1 research assistants, which included data clean-up and maintaining consistency to ensure reliability in coding for large meta-analysis on crime scene variables.
- Maintained role in lab by attending and contributing to lab meetings regarding current and future research projects within and outside the lab as well as attending and presenting research at academic conferences on behalf of the lab.
