As a native Californian, I am interested in exploring German culture production in the Latin American realm and German Americana. I am also drawn to the incredibly rich culture in both the arts and sciences during the Weimar Republic (with an eye towards early cinema and early radio). On a broad scale, my research interests are in German pop culture, contemporary literature and film where elements of transnationalism are manifest, i.e the fallout of the East-West divide and border studies.

I study the use of MMORPGs as computer mediated communication (CMC) tools in second language (L2) learning in educational settings.

    Project V-­LIFe (Virtual Language Immersion in Foreign LanguagEs) is designed to study/research whether utilizing an established MMORPG community in foreign language (L2) learning stimulates L2 learning beyond that of a traditional classroom. Project V-LIFe is focused around designing and implementing a pilot “virtual language immersion” module for a second year (2C level) German language course by utilizing an MMORPG community established on a German server.
