O'Connor
Lake Zurich, Illinois
I spent most of 25 years in the restaurant business, serving as a floor manager, maitre'd, and as beverage director/wine expert. I also worked as a sales consultant, as a sales manager, and sales consultant trainer/facilitator.
In 2004 I returned to school and eventually earned my MA and began teaching at several Chicago universities as I worked towards my PhD.
In July of 2013 I began working for Heinen's, a Cleveland-based grocery chain. I started part-time as a cheese and wine specialist, eventually taking a full-time position as a wine consultant while continuing to teach sociology classes for NEIU and Roosevelt. In January of 2015 I took on the twin roles of corporate Training Facilitator for Heinen's as well as lead orientation specialist at the Barrington store while maintaining my role as senior wine consultant.
In February of 2016 I accepted a position in sales and marketing for a small wine importer/distributor specializing in unique wines from lesser-known regions. In September I added an Italian portfolio to my business.
In 2017, I began consulting for a new restaurant in lake Zurich. That eventually led to my current position as General Manager at Zin Gastropub.

Adjunct Professor of Sociology
As a Professor of Sociology I organized, scheduled, and developed complex and specific teaching strategies as well as mentoring and motivating students with diverse backgrounds and abilities. Teaching is an extremely rewarding vocation that involves a complex set of challenges both at the institutional level and at the interactional level. Most rewarding however, is the experience of working with young people--hopefully making a positive difference in their lives.
