I am a geographer specializing in research and teaching in human geography, urban and regional planning, GIS and outdoor recreation. I am seeking a tenure track position in higher education where my academic and professional experience can enrich university and departmental learning environments to expand students knowledge and perception of geography.
Regional Coordinator
Facilitator of the development and management of a regional tourism initiative to promote historical, cultural and natural resources in order to enhance economic development to a rural area.
Advocate for rural economic development through lobbying the Texas Legislature and US Congress for maintaining and increasing funding for statewide tourism programs and State Parks. Built strong and productive partnerships with public agencies, civic organizations and tourism professionals at the local, state and national levels. Assisted with the identification of heritage tourism attractions that have the potential for development. Developed advertising and marketing campaigns to promote attractions, sites and events in the region. Established relationships with local and regional media to ensure maximum coverage of promotional activities and program progress. Organized and conduct bi-monthly educational workshops and training to enhance the knowledge of tourism professionals in rural communities. Trained and advised program interns. Environmental Coordinator
Developed and conducted hazardous material training for 500+ employees. Co-authored the annual strategic planning presentation for the Environmental Department. Contributed to writing of the Environmental Management System (EMS) for ISO 14001 certification. Remodeled the Employee Right-to-Know (MSDS) system for the facility.
Grant Writer/Project Manager
Wrote grant applications and managed funded projects for over 30 rural municipalities. Personally managed $14.9 million in funded grant projects. Acted as the primary link between rural communities and State/Federal funding agencies. Responsible for writing speeches for Mayors and County Judges for presentation of grant projects to State and Regional Review Committees. Effectively worked with project engineers, elected officials and local citizens to coordinate all aspects of grant contracts including budget development, land acquisition, bid procedures, contractor requirements, record keeping and pay estimates. Broadened the scope of the company by single handedly initiated and implemented a grant program specifically focused on the needs of rural fire departments.
