Prof. Sathasivan is a sweet guy. He really cares about his students, but I don't recommend taking him for BIO unless you have a strong biology background. His lectures are disorganized and hard to follow. However, he curves because he really wants everyone to succeed. I taught myself out of the book he wrote and still got all As.
Awesome
Just paying attention during the lecture and studying the course guide will get you far enough. Really funny and nice. The exams are clear and so are the expectations.
Awesome
Prof. Sata is an amazing prof! Content of class is pretty difficult but is manageable as long as you work for it. It's really important to study every day though.
Awesome
Prof. Sathasivan is very caring! He really wants everyone to learn and succeed. He gives homeworks and practice exams that are really helpful for exams. It will be an easy A as long as you go to class, read, listen, and do your best.
Poor
Most people like Prof. Sathasivan, but personally, his lecture style doesn't sit well with me. I usually get As in classes but this one was my first B+. He has an accent so for non-native English speakers, beware. Even though you read the textbook and take detailed notes, it won't be enough. His lectures are boring and irrevelant. He does a big curve for final grade though.
Awesome
Dr. Sata is undoubtedly one of the best Bio professors at UT. He clearly cares for his students' progress and is very understanding, as shown by his actions during the covid pandemic. The tests were fair, and attendance was required via squarecap. 10/10 would recommend him!

If you're a premed, Dr. Sata is fantastic; otherwise, avoid him at all costs. His entire class revolves around the MCAT, which I found to be completely unnecessary and stressful. Exams are manageable if you keep up with your reading. Most of your comprehension is determined by your TA, but he does have a good curve at the end of the semester.

I don't understand why Professor Sathasivan was rated very well. Basically, I had to teach myself everything. The discussion forum is also pointless. He claimed that he would give a curve at the end of the semester, but it didn't happen. Also, he couldn't figure out an easy way to take exams after everything was transitioned online. Then, made the tests more difficult on purpose.
Awesome
You either like or dislike the way he teaches. He takes attendance with Squarecap, and you may miss some because he will drop it. Study the discussion assignments and Squarecap, as the majority of them will appear on his tests. Don't be scared to approach him; he will gladly assist you. He doesn't always curve, so don't hope that he will do it at the end.

I don't really get the hype for Professor Sathasivan's class. His classes were incredibly heavy and difficult to follow. Unfortunately, I ended up teaching myself on all the material just by reading the textbook. The additional resources he provided were helpful though and he desperately expects you to use them. Also, he's quite condescending when people ask questions, especially when you ask him to repeat something.
Good
Professor Sathasivan was really nice. Honestly, Biology is just a lot of memorization and he did his best during class lectures. He pulls things a bit and doesn't explain everything very clearly. However, he has some amazing technical assistants. The discussion sections really helped in understanding the material better as the technical consultants were good. Overall, he cares. very understanding and helps you with your grade.
Good
His textbook serves as the foundation for his exams. You will pass if you complete the practice examinations, squarecap questions, and homework. In this class, you will learn a great deal. Dr. Sata wants you to push yourself to new heights in order to develop a passion for learning. He even has a list of books and documentaries that he recommends. Don't be scared to take an introduction to biology class.

If I didn't put in extra effort, I wouldn't grasp anything. To better comprehend the concepts, take notes in his textbook and study the OpenStax textbook before class. TAKE NOTES ONLY IF YOU FIND SOMETHING INTERESTING DURING THE LECTURE. Simply sit and listen to his teachings. Then afterwards, do Khan Academy modules over the prior week's topic.
Good
Dr. Sata is genuinely cares about your success. His lectures were, in my opinion, boring, but they were rly informative. The tests aren't too bad, but I hate that he insists on using the textbook for online homework. The test questions, on the other hand, are mostly taken from a book. The FRQs on the tests were the most difficult part, and I thought they were actually senseless. Discussion Sections are a waste of time. He's good overall tho!
Awesome
Professor Sathasivan is superb.
Awesome
Doctor Sathasivan is probably one of the most caring professors I've ever had. He's very interested in the success of his students and is always looking for ways to improve his assignments. In addition, he's very proficient in what he teaches. He teaches a style in which he covers all the small details of the big picture. Overall, he's a great choice for the BIO311C course.
