Dr. Rivera is an Associate Professor at the University of Alabama at Birmingham. He holds a BS in Mechanical Engineering as well as an MS in Business Computing Science from Texas A&M University, an MBA from the University of Southern Mississippi, and a Doctorate in Business Administration from Mississippi State University. In addition to his academic credentials, Dr. Rivera is a Certified Computing Professional (CCP), and a Certified Information Systems Security Professional (CISSP). He has published more than fifteen articles and professional papers. During his time at UAB Dr. Rivera has been intimately involved with the deployment and maintenance of student and faculty computing resources. Currently, Dr. Rivera primarily teaches in the Information Systems area, mainly covering Information Security and Mobile Application Development. During his tenure at UAB, Dr. Rivera has served as Chair of the Faculty, and served on or chaired a number of School level and University committees. He also served as the Interim Director of UAB’s Honors College. He periodically engages in consulting activities with area organizations. As an immigrant from Honduras, he has had experience working outside the United States with United Fruit Co. subsidiaries, as well as CEMCOL a Honduran corporation. Dr. Rivera is married and has two children.
