Awesome
I just want to say that, he's the best Mathematics professor that I had. He has a great energy, intelligence and always make you feel welcomed. I'm currently in his 104 class and he expected precision and accuracy from us. His class can be tough so always do your best in putting effort to practice. He challenges you and wants you to prepare for the higher level of learning. And I confidently say that I'm now prepared.

Professor Bernal is the BEST math professor. I re-took statistics with him, felt like a breeze with him. He actually cares about students. The organization of his class really helps. He made the class enjoyable and I think that is saying something if we are talking about statistics. Everything we had to do for the class ultimately helps you learn and get a good grade. I recommend to take him!
Awesome
Prof. Bernal on several occasions went out of his way to explain concepts to me that I couldn't understand the first time. He would take the time and effort to explain a concept 4 or 5 times, and didn't stop until he could see that I clearly understood the topic. 10/10! I hope to take pre-calc with him this summer!
Average
Now I get why he's very popular. He's very smart and he has an amazing personality. However, I think he's overly critical about details. He actually marks down heavily if you miss a theta or you forget an equal sign. I had to drop because class was very overwhelming. Grades come from weekly quizzes (15%), HW (10%), 4 exams (60%), and final (15%). He drops an exam though. If you plan to take this, please expect to put in many hours.
Awesome
Professor Juan is the best that I've ever had in my 23 years of life. He really want you to pass and understand the material. I never had a B in any math classes because it was so hard to understand until I took this class. I heard of him from so many people and honestly everyone should have him. Even if we're taking this class online due to pandemic, we still make fine.
Awesome
Prof. Bernal is one of the best math profs you'll ever have! He's very patient and he's very detailed in giving instructions. You can see that he's very passionate and that he cares about his students. We had online homework on webassign, 6 quizzes which he drops the 3rd and 4th exams. It would be an easy class as long as you pay attention!
Awesome
I took Professor Bernal for statistics 119 Spring 2020. I have to say that, he's one of the best math professors I've taken. He wants to make sure that, you get the material before moving on and offers time one on one. The transition from class to online because of COVID-19 was easy. Thanks God because if it's not this professor, I would've dropped math since I find it hard.
Awesome
I took Prof. Bernal last sem and he was pretty good! He's very caring and he'll make you pass the class! He does an amazing job of explaining the material and he tells you exactly what will be on exams.
Awful
Professor Bernal's exams were long and difficult. He deducted a lot of points in the exams and didn't let us do it again or offer more extra credit to increase our grades. He also went on crazy cheating policies and questioned every little thing. Calculus two is already a pretty tough class. In return, he expects us to be math experts. I will not be taking Calculus 3 with him in Fall.
Awesome
Professor Bernal cares about his students and will remember their struggles. He's an excellent professor and will really give you the valuable training you need. We need more educators like him in this university. If you do not take at least one of his math classes, you're missing out. He's really funny and welcoming too. Therefore, many of my colleagues and I love him. I suggest you to take his class.
Awesome
Professor Bernal is the best. I haven't had calculus in five years and I learned absolutely nothing in Calculus 1 and just got through it with an easy A. Juan taught me everything from algebra and trigonometry to calculus in an easy way. During the pandemic he provided videos and he was very helpful. I highly recommend his class.
Awesome
Prof. Juan is undoubtedly the best math professor ever! He has clear expectations. Because this is a second-semester math class, you should already be aware of the expectations. You can skip the final if you get a 90 or higher on anything, which is very doable if you apply yourself. He gives 4 exams and homework is on webassign. He allows open notes in class quizzes.
Awesome
Professor Bernal is very good at teaching. It really amazes me how knowledgeable he is. He even explains the importance of Calculus 2 in various fields of engineering, science, and statistics. He has clear and high expectations of everyone, but Calculus 2 is very difficult though. The exams were challenging, but they are viable if you study hard. And if you do well, you can skip the final exams.
San Diego Mesa College - Mathematics
Teaching Assistant
Performed weekly discussion sections with students some of which involved teaching, problem solving, and creating a learning environment for students in a much more intimate manner. Courses include Pre-Calculus, Single and Multivariable Calculus, Vector Calculus, Linear Algebra, Probability and Statistics, and Statistical Methods.
Data Analyst
Analyzed large scale data sets dealing with job scheduling. The task was to find patterns that describe the workload behavior, average run time, and predicting restart and recovery in case of failures. Methods included model selection, random forests, and regression trees, among other machine learning algorithms. Collaboration was done with Professor Ery Arias-Castro.
