Dissertation: The perception of business attire and leadership style; does leader gender matter?
273 participants located in the San Antonio, Tx area participated in this study. The Leadership Attire Questionnaire (LAQ), The Leadership Behavior Description Questionnaire – XII, and a demographic profile were the instruments used. Results: Females rated higher on consideration regardless of the type of leader business attire. For Consideration: Female rated higher when wearing business professional attire and male rated higher when wearing business casual attire. Additionally, small organization employees and administrative/support positions perceive leader business attire more important. Furthermore, job position, gender of the leader, and the LAQ rating score were significant of the leader's leadership style of consideration. And that gender of the follower, number of employees, and the LAQ rating score were significant of the leader's leadership style of initiating structure.
