Author of the Florida Criminal Cases Notebook by James Publishing. Owner and publisher at eLEX Legal Publishing, LLC. eLEX Legal Publishers LLC is the rebranding of Elex Publishers, Inc., a 35-year old national company I have purchased from one of my old law school professors and mentors. We specialize in evidence and procedure guides for trial lawyers. We have Federal and military guides, as well as guides for 22 states. It is really exciting and the plan is to move into all 50 states, develop an app, and add some other litigation products.
I am Board certified by the Florida Bar in Criminal Trial Law, and Board Certified in Criminal Law by the National Board of Trial Advocacy. I am AV*-rated by Martindale Hubbell, and a perennial recipient of Florida Trend's "Legal Elite" distinction. I hold an LL.M. in Advocacy from the Stetson University College of Law, and have the distinction of being the first person to ever earn that degree.
Previously having served as an assistant state attorney in the 6th and 13th Judicial Circuits I have been a criminal defense attorney and criminal appellate lawyer since 1999. I have successfully represented thousands of clients, and tried hundreds of cases before actual juries.
I have served for several years as an Adjunct Professor at Stetson Law, where I have taught Trial Advocacy, Florida Criminal Procedure, Survey of Florida Law, and Legal Drafting. I have served as an Adjunct Professor of Law, Co-Director of the Trial Team and trial team coach at the Florida State University College of law, and am also called on to judge/coach trial teams and state/local trial competitions.
I have served in numerous Florida Bar committees, am an active member of the Florida Association of Criminal Defense Lawyers, and the Tallahassee chapter of that organization.
My family holds Florida Pioneer status, as we have been here since 1845 - I am a sixth-generation Floridian.

From the publisher: Trends in DUI Discovery provides an authoritative, insider's perspective on the latest issues, developments, and cases involving discovery in driving under the influence cases. Featuring experienced DUI practitioners from across the country, this book guides the reader through the discovery process and the types of evidence you encounter during these cases, including officer testimony and reports from field sobriety tests, and law enforcement dash-cam audio and video recordings. With a focus on holding law enforcement and the state to an appropriately high standard, these lawyers demonstrate the importance of analyzing each crucial piece of evidence with an eye toward gathering the discovery practitioners need to shape their defense strategy. These lawyers also identify the types of experts often involved in DUI cases, describing characteristics of a good expert, how an expert can support the defense, and what to do if a client cannot afford one. Finally, these leaders discuss new technologies, strategies for suppressing evidence, and tips for identifying alternative sources of discovery to advance the client's case. The different niches represented and the breadth of perspectives presented enable readers to get inside some of the great legal minds of today, as these experienced lawyers offer up their thoughts on the keys to success within this specialized field.
