Chair (10/19 to 09/20) & Chair-Elect: (10/18 to 09/19) | NCDA Credentialing Commission
Principal in NCDA Credentialing Initiative (March 2016 to Present): In Dec. '16, the Board of Directors of NCDA voted to transform the Credentialing Organizing Committee (formed Mar '16) into the new NCDA Credentialing Commission. On 08/01/17, this new Commission launched 5 competency based certifications for the career development industry [Certified Career Services Provider (CCSP), Certified Master of Career Services (CMCS), Certified Career Counselor (CCC), Certified Clinical Supervisor of Career Counseling (CCSCC), and Certified Career Counseling Educator (CCCE)]. The Certified School Career Development Advisor (CSCDA) launched fall 2018.
As a commissioner (01/17 to 09/18) appointed by the NCDA Board of Directors, my focus has been on contributing to the group's efforts to advance these new credentials (launched in Aug. ’17). A specific area of focus is on the Commission’s communication initiatives, while assuring the ongoing quality and integrity of the Certified Master of Career Services (CMCS) credential.

Gary Howard, author of We Can’t Teach What We Don’t Know, contends that in our classrooms, there is a striking disconnect between White teachers and a diverse student body. A compelling need exists to prepare an educational work force of predominantly White teachers to effectively teach to a diverse student population. Topics discussed certainly span career development in the school setting.
