Creative & scholarly activities
In 1973
after spending 2 productive years at the Dayton Art Institute (working in sculpture) I earned a BA degree at the University of Dayton (Art/Painting). From 1974-1979 I worked as an industrial engineering technician for the US Air Force Logistics Command. Learning programming and working by way of ARPANET was fascinating. In 1980 I earned a MA in visual arts education
did research in perceptual psychology and focused on education for gifted students. From 1979-1983 I taught high school art in rural Ohio. I then moved to an editorial position with an international academic journal (the Journal of Teacher Education) from 1984-1986. From 1987-1989 I worked as an independent journalist
photographer & illustrator. In 1988 I began working as a consultant and illustrator for the National Park Service in Texas. In 1989 I began to work for the University of Texas
Austin in Belize other archeology projects in the USA
Belize
Mexico
and Guatemala. In 1994 I earned an interdisciplinary doctoral degree in visual arts and education (Ed.D.) from the College of Design
Architecture
Art & Planning at the University of Cincinnati. From 1992-2000 I worked for Boston University
Department of Archeology. Work at BU supported projects focused on lowland Maya cultures in Belize and projects in the labs in Boston. In 1994 I accepted tenure track faculty position at the University of North Carolina at Pembroke where I established the \"digital arts\" program and co-founded the \"UNCP Digital Academy.\" At UNCP I am currently a professor of Art
former Director of the Digital Academy
and Coordination of the Digital Arts program and the interdisciplinary \"Media Integration Studies\" minor. In the past 10 years I have been a Fulbright Senior Scholar in Taiwan and China
