The School of Arts & Sciences is the largest of the University of Alaska Southeast’s four schools and is dedicated to advancing the institution’s mission of student learning, enhanced by faculty scholarship, undergraduate research and creative activities, community engagement, and the cultures and environment of Southeast Alaska. In addition, the school is committed to the UA's statewide strategic direction for Shaping Alaska’s Future.
The School of Arts & Sciences has approximately 650 undergraduate students and is comprised of the following regional academic departments:
• Department of Humanities
• Department of Natural Sciences
• Department of Social Sciences
The senior associate dean reports to the dean and provides vision, leadership and management on the Juneau campus for:
a) Enhancing the school’s performance in meaningful measures of success
b) Enhancing program quality through rigorous and linked program assessment and resource allocation processes
c) Supervision of Juneau campus support staff and administration of departmental budgets to and support excellence in teaching and learning across all departments
d) Supervision of the Arts & Sciences Academic Advisor to include collaboration with the UAS Student Resource Center to enhance student success and increase student achievement on institutional performance measures across all programs (e.g. retention, completion).
The senior associate dean is a vital member of the dean's leadership team on the Juneau campus and holds an exempt administrative appointment with teaching and service responsibilities in a 12-month contract. The senior associate dean regularly communicates and collaborates with department chairs, program coordinators, faculty, staff, and students.
