Founder
Founded the Yinzercation blog and social media sites, which served as one of the hubs for a grassroots education justice movement in Southwest Pennsylvania with over 3,500 followers. Articles were frequently cited and re-blogged, and regularly published in the national media including the Washington Post, Huffington Post, and AlterNet. Worked with a steering committee to organize actions of an all-volunteer collective of parents, students, teachers, and community members. Met with legislators and decision makers. Staged rallies, hosted film showings and lectures, gave public testimony. Worked with state and national partners and networks. Produced events such as the national launch of Dr. Diane Ravitch’s 2013 book, which attracted over 1,000 people; and the 2014 Pennsylvania gubernatorial candidate Education Debate, broadcast across the state with 500 in the live audience. Scholar
New Faculty Fellow in Women’s Studies and History, 2012 to 2013: two-year postdoctoral fellowship with funding granted from the American Council of Learned Societies (ACLS). Also affiliated as a Visiting Scholar in the Gender, Sexuality & Women’s Studies Program: 2009 to 2011 and 2014 to present. In addition to teaching and research, gave dozens of conference presentations, invited talks, and keynote speeches, nationally and abroad.
