Through my APA-accredited predoctoral internship
I completed a year-long Severe Mental Illness rotation. I managed a caseload of 25 male federal inmates identified as having serious mental illnesses and requiring regular clinical contact. I completed diagnostic and care level formulations to determine treatment needs
and I conducted individual and group therapy utilizing evidence-based treatments (i.e.
Dialectical Behavior Therapy
Mindfulness-Based Cognitive Therapy
Anger Management). I also served as liaison between Psychology Services and various other prison departments
consulting across disciplines to facilitate comprehensive care. I completed intake assessments of new and transfer inmates and assigned appropriate care levels. I intervened in crisis situations (e.g.
behavioral disruptions
security and safety concerns
risk of harm to self or others) and performed correctional duties as needed to assist with security of the institution as a whole. I regularly completed suicide risk assessments to determine imminent risk of inmate self-harm and future needs and follow-up care subsequent to suicide watch. \n\nI completed a six-month trauma specialty rotation
which consisted of co-facilitating a RESOLVE trauma treatment group therapy for female inmates. I also conducted psychosocial assessments and wrote comprehensive reports to determine treatment needs of female federal inmates in trauma-focused therapy.\n\nThrough my Forensic Psychology rotation
I administered intelligence
personality/psychopathology and malingering instruments (WAIS-IV
MMPI-2
MMPI-2-RF
SIMS
PAI)
conducted competency and mental state at the time of the offense evaluations and wrote integrated forensic reports for federal judges.\n
