Jeremy W. Kemp is a full-time faculty member at SJSU SLIS and started teaching online in 1999. While he solders poorly
he is a consummate Maker of things both in bits and atoms. His instructional technology project connecting Moodle and Second Life has attracted thousands of participants from around the world — www.sloodle.org. Kemp has a doctorate in education and master's degrees from Stanford and Northwestern University. He has been awarded \"Picture of the Day\" three times on Wikipedia and \"Featured Video\" twice on YouTube.\nhttp://infotoday.com/il2012/speakers.asp?speaker=JeremyKemp

Putting a second life “metaverse” skin on learning management systems
This paper outlines the advantages and weaknesses of Multi-User Virtual\nEnvironments for teaching and explores the possible benefits of integrating them closely\nwith traditional Learning Management Systems. We present survey findings of teachers\ninterested in using the Second Life MUVE for teaching. The teachers gave us their opinions\nabout integrating SL and LMS in their classrooms. We finally propose technical methods for\ncreating hybrid systems combining elements of both MUVE and traditional LMS systems
Putting a second life “metaverse” skin on learning management systems
This article describes a technical method for connecting data from virtual environments with Virtual Learning Environments (LMS) so that student work in Second Life may be authenticated and assessed in the VLE setting.
SLOODLE: Connecting VLE tools with emergent teaching practice in Second Life
Global Kids
Global Kids' Second Life Curriculum is composed of nine sequential \"levels.\" Each level is composed of modules which
in turn
are composed of individual lesson plans or \"missions\". In total there are 134 missions. These can be used as hand-outs to develop specific Second Life-specific skills or within a broader educational program designed to teach such subjects as science
filmmaking or literature.

SLOODLE
SLOODLE is a free plug-in for the popular Open Source web-based virtual learning environment 'Moodle' which integrates Moodle and Second Life. This concept was my own idea and grew into a sizable community of Moodle developers and end users interested in its features. I worked with Daniel Livingstone who landed a grant to support development.
