Lexington, Kentucky
I completed my work as a graduate student at the University of Kentucky in May 2015, with a dissertation examining the impact of new media technologies on participation in the political and civic realms, primarily using data from the 2008 American National Election Study. During my last semester at UK, I won the departmental graduate student teaching award, highlighting my teaching and mentorship abilities. Since graduation, I have been working as an adjunct instructor in the Kentucky Community and Technical College System. Since graduation, and for several semesters prior, I have been the instructor of note for several courses, both online and in person. In my dissertation, titled “A Digital Dud? New Media, Participation, and Voting in the 2004 and 2008 United States Presidential Elections,” I investigated the linkages between new media (online news, primarily) and participation, both civic and political, in the 2004 and 2008 US presidential elections. My main areas of interest include political sociology, sociology of the media, and quantitative data analysis.
