I am a current microbiology professor at a community college in the Ft. Worth, Texas area. I coordinate microbiology courses and manage our student laboratory assistants. I have a combined 10 years classroom and lab teaching experience at the university and community college level, and I have six years previous research experience in cancer vaccine development, humanized mice models, molecular genetics, and other immunology in vitro/in vivo studies, with two publications and involvement in one current clinical trial.I have newly developed four biology and microbiology courses including integration of lab and project-based learning. In 2019 I was awarded the Chancellor's Exemplary Teaching Award for my district, and granted tenure. I have been an author for chapters and supplemental materials for three microbiology textbooks. My interests are in developing interdisciplinary opportunities for student research at the community college level, research and practical development of teaching strategies/ student engagement especially for challenged and underserved communities, and am constantly seeking new leadership roles for personal growth. Additionally, I have previous background in music performance, and am an executive board member of Mu Phi Epsilon Professional Music Fraternity (2014-2020), managing our 85 collegiate chapters regional district directors across the United States, planning triennial conventions, contributing to budget management, and chapter troubleshooting. Any opportunities to develop skills in lab management, additional microbiology, genetics, or immunology research, overall leadership and professionalism, student organization logistics or management, and teaching pedagogy are welcome.
