Human Resources jobs can be the most diverse jobs out there! It is like combining the jobs of a lawyer
teacher
principal
psychologist
and business manager all in one. At this hotel
I could do any one of these roles within the same hour. I handled all of the standard HR functions including FMLA
workers compensation
Affirmative Action
and unemployment claims. I represented management as a member of the Executive Committee
working with the rest of the committee to develop the hotel's strategic plan and annual budget. I also represented the employees as the organizer of employee recognition programs
head of the Employee CARE committee (volunteer committee)
and providing career development plans for employees' promotions both internally and externally.\n\nSuccess Stories:\n♦ Linked talent management strategies to business outcomes by creating a team vision statement and incentive plans linked to the organization's balanced scorecard.\n♦ Increased staff empowerment and satisfaction by designing and facilitating leadership development programs for all levels of management and high potential employees.\n♦ Reduced staff turnover from 37% to 21% from 2006 to 2008 by focusing on retention and recognition.\n♦ Increased Team Member satisfaction from 74% in 2006 to 84% in 2007 through extensive analysis of Great Places to Work data
staff focus groups
and creation of professional development and social opportunities.\n♦ Maintained a “green” score on all people and culture related areas of hotel’s balanced scorecard each year.

Odyssey of the Mind is a creative problem solving program that combines art and drama with technology and engineering. While I held this role as a volunteer
it was like a full time job as I built the region's organization from the ground up. I created and lead the 10-person Board of Directors in strategic and organizational development. I marketed the organization to educators and parents throughout the state of Utah and created all marketing collateral pieces. Each year
I would train almost 200 coaches and tournament helpers. Working with the team of lead volunteers
I led the logistical planning for the State Tournament which hosted over 600 Utah students
parents
and volunteers each year. Through my leadership
membership increased 200% in three years and participation increased from 70 students in 5 schools to over 300 students in 16 schools throughout Utah and Idaho.

When I started at Glenwild
there had been a four year gap of the company not having a Human Resources Specialist. This meant that there was much work to do in developing employee handbooks
policies
and procedures. As an organization that hired over 100 seasonal employees
the walk-in
paper based application process was outdated and cumbersome. Employee morale was low due to a lack of employee benefits and perks and inconsistent compliance and policies. I established an HR department and managed compliance
leadership development
employee recruitment
retention
and recognition.\n\nSuccess Stories:\n♦ Streamlined recruitment by transitioning from walk-in
paper application to a fully integrated online process.\n♦ Reduced turnover and increased employee satisfaction through negotiating a benefits package for all full time employees.\n♦ Mitigated employment law risk through creation of policies and procedures and management HR training.
