    Senior Group Underwriter

    I possess an in-depth knowledge of benefit design, including self-insured and other financial arrangement, insurance premium rate composition, cost controls, wellness benefit arrangements, and various different total compensation strategies in several industries / roles.

    I was responsible for researching and analyzing the risk exposure in various industries & with various financial arrangements, where I would then set the rates to ensure the profitability of the insurance organization.

    I also helped determine the pricing & projection models for the block of business, requiring a comprehensive understanding of competitor offerings & mathematical applications.

    I was a demonstrated influencer across multiple teams, as I was chosen to participate on several key committees over my duration with the organization. Individually I developed key efficiencies with the creation of rate renewal templates utilizing Excel VBA, as well as other key committees to develop or enhance technological programs within the organization.

  • City of St. Albert

    Chair - Economic Development Advisory Board ("EDAB")

    I was nominated to the Vice Chair position of the inaugural Advisory Board established in August 2013 and held that position until August 2015. Currently, I sit as the Chair of the Advisory Board.

    The primary objective of EDAB is to assist administration in the implementation of the Council approved Economic Development plans, as well as recommendations for the award of Significant Event Stimulus Grant funds.

    I lead a team of executive business professionals and ensured that all directors were aware of their governance obligations and that the Board complied with its responsibilities to provide expert advice on matters associated with major Economic Development Division plans.

    I also represented the Board and the Division at meetings and other significant events, acting as a conduit to the public, business community and investors in support of the development and prosperity of the business community.

    Additionally, I prioritized items of business with conflicting deadlines and urgency in the creation and delivery of the monthly agenda, as well as ensured the meeting minutes reflected matters of business for reference.

  • Government of Alberta

    Prudential Supervision - Insurance Regulation & Market Conduct - FSRP

    I was a relationship manager and senior analyst responsible for monitoring the financial solvency, risk management, and governance of Alberta's provincially incorporated insurance companies and reciprocal insurance exchanges. I was also responsible for monitoring compliance with the Insurance Act of Alberta, the federal Office of the Superintendent of Financial Institution's guidelines, and International Association of Insurance Supervisors' Insurance Core Principles.

    The analysis requires the execution of several onsite and offsite examinations using a mix of a variety of documents:

    • Financial (audited financial statements, actuarial reporting, investment statements,
    budgets, etc);
    • Policy / Procedural (Capital Management, Investment Management, Outsourcing,
    Reinsurance Risk Management, etc);
    • Governance (Bylaws, Meeting Minutes of Board & Committees, Strategic & Business
    Planning, etc); and
    • Other (Internal Audit Reporting, etc).

    This analysis also required an ability to interpret, administer, and communicate the applicable legislation, regulation, and guidelines to the insurance entities based on the information listed above. As such, the role required the establishment and maintenance of relationships with Government and other stakeholders, including other government ministries, regulatory authorities, insurance entity Executive Management & Board, as well as their appointed representatives, such as the External Auditor and Appointed Actuary.

    I also belonged to the Canadian Council of Insurance Regulators (CCIR) Standards of Practice Standing Committee. This committee reviewed and commented on the standards and guidelines submitted by the various industry organizations, such as CLHIA, IBC, Advocis, and many others.

  • Government of Alberta

    Manager - Financial Institutions Regulation - FSRP
