Professor Hicks has quizzes on the readings. So, make sure to read what he assigns in the class. The papers I wrote in his class were not difficult. I just kept it simple yet interesting. Textbook was used for citations and work cited in addition to a few readings. I do recommend his class, the final was not difficult.

If you wanna improve your writing skills, Prof. Hicks is the best choice for you. Not only is he always available but he also gives amazing feedback. He's the type of prof who's very interested in helping his students succeed.

He has a very "I've done this class a million times" attitude. His passive-aggressive explanations of basic things are put into a kind of limbo where I'm too afraid to ask a basic question for fear of being humiliated in class. The essay topics were all abhorrently boring as well, and so were the lectures.
