Biography

Berry College - Physical Education

Adjunct Professor at Pacifica Graduate Institute
Jeanne
Schul, Ph.D., RSMT
My career path is that of “teacher,” working with students of all ages, levels, abilities and challenges using an approach that is relational, starting from where the student is and progressing from there. I offer a somatic perspective: inviting the learner to embody the concept being introduced. My goal is to find creative ways to explore ideas and develop skills, connecting with the artist within each of us. This also involves accessing the whole person by addressing the individual's emotions through the expressive arts. Dream work, somatic body therapy, improvisational dance, and spiritual practices are also ways in which I support the unfolding of workshop and retreat participants, providing ways to deepen into their individuation process.

My dissertation was entitled: "Creating Dances from Dreams: Embodying the Unconscious through Choreography." In it, I explored the connection between the dream image and the dance image. From that image, I created a dance that developed from my own dreams, which included nightmares, dreams of transition, and archetypal dreams. I worked with my student dance company, Berry College Dance Troupe, to manifest this dance of the unconscious as a main stage production. Then, I interviewed the dancers and audience to grasp what we can learn from creating dances from dreams.
