I direct the MFA in Writing at the University of Saskatchewan. This graduate program,
now in year four, has ten graduates. I am the author of six books of poetry and one
novel, The Factory Voice, long listed for the Scotiabank Giller Prize and a ReLit Award in
2009. The Factory Voice was a Globe and Mail 'Best Book' of 2009. The novel was also
chosen as the 'Community Reads' book for the Durham Region Public Libraries in 2010.
My poetry has been shortlisted for the Pat Lowther Award and has won the Bliss
Carman Award, the Nick Blatchford Occasional Verse Award (The New Quarterly) one
placed second in Room Magazine's 2014 writing contest (poetry). I hold an MFA in
Writing from The University of Southern Maine's low-residency program (2005) and
a Ph.D. in Canadian literature from York University, Toronto. I have been a writer in
residence at Saskatoon Public Library, Kwantlen Polytechnic University and Northern
Lights College. I have taught writing at the Banff Centre, the Sage HIll Writing Experience,
and St. Francis Xavier University.
