Missouri State University - Chemistry
Master's degree
Chemistry
I synthesized
conjugated
and imaged quantum dots within living cells. I have also taught general chemistry and am currently teaching organic chemistry. Currently
research has been my prime concern.

I worked to setup and organize many events for our local chapter of the American Chemical Society (ACS). With the help of Eric Tague
we brought our chapter from an almost inactive to over 50 members
touring various businesses in the area to let people know what was out there. These trips included anything from Sigma-Aldrich to an underground mine to look at the extractions and the full process of geological chemistry. We started many ongoing events to promote chemistry in the community. The favorite became \"Demos in the Dark\" where we showed kids of all ages demonstrations of chemical reactions that glow
explode
and have fancy colors. It became a teaching exercise as well as a lot of fun. I started as Secretary
but our Vice President left in the middle of the semester
so I took up his place. We earned an award at the National Convention in San Diego for our growth and I was able to go and collect it with our President as well as present on our chapters activities. I still help out to a smaller extent with our current chapter
devising new and exciting activities to promote chemistry in the community.

Graduate Assistant
I worked in all sections of the crime lab
cateloging firearms
creating a powders database for IR analysis
weekly quality assurance tasks for drug chemistry and toxicology. I also maintained GCMS instrument for toxicology section. I mostly cleaned within the DNA section
keeping things sterile. occasionally I would create reagents for various tests. I worked on helping validate a new cocaine extraction in toxicology as well. The position only lasted 1 year. I was offered a continuation
but decided to focus on my master's degree instead.

Award for outstanding presentation of my research poster during a yearly event held on campus called the Interdisciplinary Forum. Judges include professors from any department as a challenge for students to explain
clearly
their work to those outside their discipline.
