Throughout the year
I direct a couple of races - The House Indoor Triathlon and The 6Ks of Summer. Proceeds from these races go to local charities. I believe that poverty issues are best handled at a local level
not the federal level. These races are my opportunity to make a difference in my community. If you are interested in being a part of this effort
email me at runwildiowa@gmail.com.

As a guest columnist
I had the opportunity to write about the triathlon scene in Eastern Iowa. My columns have ranged in subject material from equipment to race psychology.

Graduate Research Assistant
Idaho State University
I worked in the Nephrology division of the Internal Medicine Department. My job was to do protein biochemistry and basic electrophysiology (2-electrode voltage clamping).
Research Assistant II
Iowa City
Iowa Area
The University of Iowa
Department of Otolarnygology
My primary job is to start new projects
work out the initial protocols
and then train new investigators (primarily surgical residents on extended research rotations) on the various techniques needed to successfully complete the project. I specialize in:\n\n- Small animal surgery \n- Protein interaction assays: Western blots
Co-IP
Pull down assays
Far Western blots\n\nI also do DNA and RNA work to complement the efforts of other researchers in our lab. Additionally
I handle all the administrative (Animal Care
ordering
health and safety
etc...) aspects of our lab. Finally
I also manage one of the cell culture core facilities for the Iowa Center for Molecular and Auditory Neuroscience. In this position
I train students ranging from the undergraduate level to surgical residents in proper cell culture techniques.
Research Manager
The University of Iowa Hospitals and Clinics
While employed by the Department of Anatomy and Cell Biology
I studied effects of chronic mechanical stretch on the interaction of cardiac muscle cells and coronary blood vessels.
