I graduated with a BSc (Hons) degree in Mechanical Engineering from Reading University in 1983. Then I undertook postgraduate research at Imperial College leading to the Degree of Doctor of Philosophy in 1987. I joined the same research group at Imperial College till January 2001 when I joined City University London as a lecturer and was promoted to Senior Lecturer in 2004, to Reader in Mechanical Engineering in 2008 and to Professor of Experimental Fluid Mechanics in August 2011. My research areas are focused on fluid mechanics, Fuel injection system, internal combustion engines, turbo-machinery, two-phase flows, Newtonian and non-Newtonian fluid flows and application of optical diagnostics with over 70 publications and a number of awards including the 2000 Arch T. Colwell Merit Award of the Society of Automotive Engineers.
In August 2005 I was appointed Course Director for PG MSc Mechanical and Automotive Engineering and then appointed Assistant Dean for UG Mechanical, Energy and Automotive & Motor Sport Engineering in August 2007, and then appointed as Head of Department of Mechanical Engineering and Aeronautics in August 2011.
