I love teaching face-to-face or online and enjoy nurturing that next generation of college students to go on in science, health care or public health. I have been dubbed "The Godfather of Online Science" by Linda Jeschofnig CEO of Hands-On Labs, Inc. for my advocacy and pioneer work to delivering science courses completely online and opening the door to a science education through the world wide web.
I am a former college/university dean at OCC and NJCU, director of microbiology at Roche, vice president of a biotech corporation, and NJ Assistant Commissioner of Health.

Dr. James Brown, a Kean Ocean professor, was honored with the New Jersey Public Health Association (NJPHA) President’s Award, at the organization’s annual awards ceremony, held on December 11 at the Robert Wood Johnson Foundation in Princeton, N.J. Brown received the nod for his pioneering work developing an online course, Introduction to Public Health, which provides students with a convenient and engaging entryway into this critical, interdisciplinary profession. The course is now available free of charge to all 19 community colleges in New Jersey.

This provides an opportunity for the student to integrate the skills, methodology, and knowledge gained throughout the semester and culminates in a project in the form of a paper to analyze and evaluate the experience.

The course, which filled three sections this semester at Kean Ocean, is now available free of charge to all 19 community colleges in New Jersey. Introduction to Public Health recently earned Brown an honorable mention in the national SoftChalk 2012 Lesson Challenge. He was also designated as an Innovator in Online Learning by SoftChalk, which features “people doing great things” in their online courses.
