I began teaching 7th & 8th Grade mathematics at Tampa Day School. I had the good fortune
while at Keystone Prep High School
to teach many Tampa Day School graduates and I was so impressed by their study skills
academic achievements
persistence
and social skills that I began doing weekly observations of TDS teachers and classrooms. I learned a lot and
while I was teaching at other schools
I continued to attend Tampa Day School Professional Development opportunities. My chance to teach at Tampa Day School was only by a series of happenstance circumstances that I have to declare as fate. Tampa Day School has a clear vision and I feel that I teach with purpose. I am very pleased and excited.

I teach in the Developmental Math program at Hillsborough Community College. I currently teach in the evenings using ALEKS. ALEKS allows the instructor to identify the strengths & weaknesses of a class at the beginning of the term by administering an Integrated diagnostic ALEKS assessment at the beginning of the semester. This is a assessment that identifies precisely what a student knows and is ready to learn. ALEKS can successfully target gaps by assessing precisely a student's knowledge and periodically reassessing for long term retention. It is what I call the super differentiated classroom. Previously I used MyMathLab and MathXL programs but am enjoying ALEKS. HCC provided terrific training for me in the ALEKS program and much of the success can be given to the training that was offered to me
\n\nI see my primary objective as improving my student's knowledge of algebra concepts so that they have a firm foundation to advance to higher level mathematics courses.\n\nThe Developmental Math Program at Hillsborough Community College is a very exciting program to be working with. I have been exposed to wonderful math teachers from all walks of life. I have been shown many teaching styles. \nThe entire Developmental Math Program is devoted to the success of the students. The leadership promotes new ideas that enhance the student's learning experience. It is a very well run program. HCC is constantly looking at innovation in the classroom that benefits the student's college success. I am very impressed by the overall concern for the success of each student.\n HCC is a great place. It continually offers me opportunities to improve my teaching.

For the preceding 30 years I was employed in the financial services industry with several excellent compainies. I worked with equity and fixed income investments. My primary area of focus was municipal finance sales where I worked with large institutional investors such as bank trust departments
insurance companies
municipal bond fund managers as well as private investors. It was a wonderful career where I had the opportunity to work with many great professionals and very nice customers. \nAs I reached an age in my early 50’s I had a desire to teach. I had always been involved with my son and daughter’s schools and youth programs. As this idea was forming
I learned of the Master of Arts in Teaching Degree at USF. After attending several information meetings
I decided this is what I wanted to do and have been very pleased with my decision. It is nice to have the opportunity to have two careers that you love in one lifetime.

From September 2014 until August 2017 I was a middle school math teacher at Westlake Christian School
teaching a mixture of on-level and honors level math courses. Westlake Christian School is a mission of Palm Harbor United Methodist Church (PHUMC). The school was very fortunate to have such terrific support from PHUMC’s clergy
staff
and congregation. As a lifelong Methodist
I am very proud to have been a part of the PHUMC mission at Westlake Christian School.\nIt was a pleasure to teach at Westlake Christian School with a wonderful teacher team and excellent parental support.

I was fortunate to teach at Keystone Prep High School. Keystone Prep High School is a non-profit school with a mission to serve students who learn differently. I taught Algebra 1
Geometry
Algebra 2
and Algebra with Financial Applications. I introduced technology into the classroom and centered most of my course work around the use of MathXL. MathXL is product of Pearson Publishing that builds the student's self reliance by giving immediate feedback to the student and offers alternative methods of explanation of math concepts. It is a wonderful program that fosters the student accepting responsibility for their own success. My students were very hard working and developed wonderful life skills as well as math ability. I was fortunate to have such wonderful students and parents to work with. Keystone Prep operates as a sister school to Tampa Day School. Tampa Day School serves a population of students from 2nd grade to 8th grade. I was pleased to have had access to their resources. They are a tremendous school offering a mainstream education to students who learn differently. They have an excellent education model that I learned from.

Teaching Introduction to Business courses with a primary focus on Management and Marketing courses. I began teaching at HCC as I began seeking my MAT degree from USF as a full time graduate student. Teaching business courses was a bridge between my previous career and my desire to become a teacher. I discovered the vital role that HCC serves in our community and felt very fortunate to teach in such a wonderful program. HCC introduced me to a diverse group of professional teachers
technology in the class room and wonderful continuing Education courses that enhanced what I was learning in the graduate program at USF. While at HCC
I completed 18 hours of undergraduate math courses so that I could observe other teachers “teach” math. I was very impressed by what I saw!

I began teaching at St. John's as a long term substitute teacher in the math department as I was completing my Master of Arts in Teaching degree. At the end of that period
I was asked to remain as a full time teacher for the 5th
6th
& 7th grades. I remained at St. John's for the next two years after my original role as substitute. St. John's had terrific students and even better parents. It was a wonderful place to begin my math teaching career.
