Awesome
Most definitely one of the best profs at Penn State. He really cares about the students. Some tests are easy but be careful, some tests are hard. Just go to class, do the work and you'll be ok. I recommend taking Econ 104 with him.
Awesome
Great Professor. Totally organized, extremely clear about his expectations. Gives tons of Economics practice. Be sure to read along with the course. Do not be intimidated by the difficulty, Pay attention and study hard. it is a very do-able class. You should do well in class.
Awesome
I took Professor Tierney for ECON 304. For starters, ECON 304 is a Senior Level Econ Course. You have to study very hard for his exams and you have to work hard not to miss any lectures. Tierney does not make ECON 304 difficult, and he does give you all of the resources necessary to study on your own and succeed. I took Tierney in ECON 304. First of all, 304 is a tough class. You have to study hard for the exams, and try to not get too behind with lectures. In my opinion, Tierney is not responsible for the difficulty of ECON 304. He gives you all the resources: book pages, accurate sample exams, in class examples, to study by your own and succeed.
Good
Tierney is an Ok professor. He has decent office hours. The content was difficult but interesting. His tests were too long. One of the questions had 19 parts.
Good
Do not take this class if you don't really want to know this stuff. It's definitely rewarding, though, if you're prepared to work a little bit for it. Tierney is super sweet, ready to assist, and a excellent lecturer. Side note: Tierney is likely a nice way to go if you've taken Econ 102 with Wooten and enjoyed him.
Awesome
Prof. Tierney's class was the most difficult I had this semester and this is actually my first time to give feedback on this website. He's an amazing professor and he's very passionate about teaching. Every week, he gives homework and quizzes which are really time-consuming. He also gave three exams which are very challenging. YOU REALLY HAVE TO SHOW UP IN CLASS!!!
Awful
Prof. Tierney has good reviews here but personally, he isn't the best professor to take. He gives good lectures but his tests are hard. This class is supposed to be basic macro but he makes it like a 300 level. He could also care less about his students. I regret taking him.
Awful
I did not find that Professor Tierney's teaching style was, I just went to class because I need clicker points. If you want to get an A you have to read everything on the textbook, all the notes he had in class are only like...1/5 of the textbook. It was cool he gave us 3.5% curve at the end of the semester.
Poor
Professor Tierney is the coldest teacher ever. I got 1% off from the passing grade and did try my best. It was my second time taking 304 with him. He told me "better luck next time". Why would a professor make very hard exams that the class average was only 60%? The easiest way to pass 304 is by taking a summer class.
Poor
Professor Tierney knew his stuff, however he made the class far more difficult than it needed to be. Remember, this was an intro class. If you wanted an easy A, then don't take the class. The quizzes were also on every lesson as well as being timed.
Awesome
Professor James was just amazing with a few very interesting lectures. Apart from that, there is a lot of work in his classes. If you're okay with around three hours of outside work every week then go ahead and take the class. If you're more interested in boring yourself to death getting an easy A, go find someone else.
Poor
Prof. James is a good guy who clearly knows his stuff, but his notes barely reflected material covered on exams. He thinks he's taking a different approach to education, but he really just doesn't teach well. He made exams 10 times more difficult than it has to be especially after wasting class hours discussing irrelevant info.
Good
Prof. James cares a lot about economics and his students' success. He's willing to help you out during his office hours. Majority of your grade comes from exams. It has lots of tricky questions that are not always taught in class. Overall, you'll learn a lot and he uses lots of modern technology and real life application.
