Biography

Associate Professor at Skidmore College
Higher Education
Gwen
D'Arcangelis
Greater Los Angeles Area
I am a scholar whose research, writing, and teaching centers on social justice, specifically in the areas of science, medicine and environment. I aim for my work to be useful to social movements for gender justice, queer justice, and justice for communities of color. I have taught feminist and anti-racist content in traditional and non-traditional educational settings, to a diverse audience but particularly those from those marginalized groups. I have also gone beyond academic writing to produce critical pieces and also issue briefs furnished to activist and community members who might gain useful ideas and information from my research and analysis. Finally, I have done work connecting student populations to social justice/movement work that serves community and organization needs. In the future, I would like to continue doing this work, with more emphasis on collaborative academic writing, public writing that reaches a broader audience, and writing directly for community organizations. I would also like to explore writing for radio, a medium that disseminates ideas and generates wide reaching discussion.

I am now looking for collaborators and opportunities to work in social justice--in academia, the non-profit sector, at a research institute, or in an unincorporated community organization. Check out my website and email me (darcange@ucla.edu) to learn more!
