Tutor secondary students in essay writing, reading, research, and ACT and SAT prep.
Adjunct Professor
English I and II (2010-Present): Provide classroom instructions to an average of 24 students per class on a variety of writing assignments. Lead classroom discussion and analysis of literary text. Conduct writing workshops and conference with students to address individual needs. Provide students with constructive feedback on their writing assignments to ensure continued progress. Utilize computer and information technology in the classroom.
Critical Reading (Fall 2014): By applying reading comprehension strategies such as SQ3R, taught 16 students with remedial reading skills to expand their vocabulary, identify the writers purpose, and to identify the genre of the writing. Furthermore, students were taught how to apply the reading material to their own experiences, resulting in improved comprehension skills.
Writing Skills II (Fall 2010): Taught remedial writing students basics of grammar, sentence structure, and essay writing to prepare them for English I. Conducted writing workshops and met with students individually to discuss their writing and ensure continued improvement. Wrote syllabus for the course.
Center for International Education, Northampton Community College – Professor (2014 to Present)
English (Fall 2014, Fall 2015): Taught 25 and 31 Danish exchange students respectively at the secondary and college level English grammar and American literature. The students gained a better understanding of thesis-based essays, English sentence structure, and subject-verb agreement.
GED Tutor
Tutored pre-GED student in reading, writing, and math.
Co-Interim Reading and Writing Coordinator
Supervised a staff of approximately 7 part-time reading and writing tutors, organized schedules, conducted new-tutoring training, and oversaw online tutoring services for writing. Coordinated with faculty and staff regarding student assignments, special events, and workshops. Organized and taught workshops for writing annotated bibliographies and formatting and documenting papers according to the guidelines of the Modern Language Association and the American Psychological Association.
Professional Tutor
Provide a diverse population of students with reading, writing, philosophy, and study skills necessary to become independent learners. Assist students in navigating online courses. Involved in initiatives to promote the Learning Center’s services. These initiatives include creating online advertising, introducing new students to the Learning Center, and working with students in class. Teach workshops for the Study Skills Marathon and MLA and APA formatting and documentation.
