Instructor of Natural and Behavioral Sciences at Pellissippi State Community College. Environmental scientist, field and laboratory researcher and presenter, with recognized expertise in geology, ecology, conservation biology and biodiversity. Experienced in energy research, environmental organizing and higher education. I have published the sixth edition of Environmental Science: Concepts and Solutions, an introductory textbook from Jones and Bartlett Learning.
In addition to my academic/environmental career I also blog at appalachianson.wordpress.com and I am a contributing author and to Appalachia Bare. My work is published in leading newspapers across the United States and world, with regular contributions at Counter Punch and The Ecologist. My writing earns me a chair on the Energy & Environment Advisory Council for the Our America Initiative.
Interests include higher education, teaching, service learning, sustainability, conservation, ecosystem services, the civic sector, clean/just economies and the protection of biodiversity. Particularly concerned with the health and conservation of aquatic habitats/biodiversity and freshwater resources.
