Biography

Montgomery College Rockville - English

Foreign Professor of English Language Education at Korea University
Grace
Kim
Korea
I can teach English speaking, reading, and writing to students of any language, proficiency level, and age because I have learned to teach English while teaching it for 25 years.

I teach speaking by having students utter one word to two, then phrases, then sentences until they get enough practice that they start speaking English, forgetting that they are using a second language. This method was especially effective for students who had fear of speaking the second language.

I teach reading by using authentic reading materials such as online current events, novels, and other books that are relevant, therefore more appealing, to my students' cultures and experiences. Once they finish a book, they are hooked to read more, even on their own.

I teach writing by having students write often and in various formats, share what they wrote, learn from mistakes, and incorporate correct grammar in their pieces where they recognize what they really know. They learn that writing is a long process that involves brainstorming, organizing, drafting, and revising.
