This project was part of a longer term initiative for me. I personally made 15 service trips - and taught 9 separate courses - in New Orleans and Southwest Louisiana between November of 2005 and November of 2008, each working on a different aspect of planning, establishing and working at the Rebuild Center and serving the victims of Hurricanes, Katrina, Rita, Gustav and Ike.
MPA Program Coordinator/ Graduate Research and Teaching Assistant
Advised students in graduate program in public administration. Placed and advised student interns in local governments and nonprofit organizations. Taught undergraduate courses in political science and public administration.
Adjunct Lecturer
Adjunct Lecturer in the College of Urban Planning and Public Affairs, teaching graduate and undergraduate courses in public policy, strategic management, public management practices, leadership, grant writing, public finance and budgeting.
Assistant Professor
Taught graduate courses in public admnistration both on-line and on-ground, as well as worked on planning and evaluation studies in the City of Springfield, Sangamon County and for the Center for State Policy and Leadership. Also served as the President of the Central Illinois Chapter of the American Society for Public Administration for two years.
Assistant Director / Professor
Worked with professionals in local government in planning development workshops and taught graduate courses in public services management, as well as an undergraduate course on the life and work of Frank Lloyd Wright. Graduate coursework included five years of on-the-ground planning and development for the Tulane-Canal neighborhood in New Orleans and the Community Foundation of Acadiana in Southwestern Louisiana following Hurricanes Katrina and Rita.
Assistant Professor
Primary responsibility for graduate budgeting and financial management courses in public administration, as well as courses in organizational theory, intro to public administration, urban planning and community development. Helped to design an undergraduate urban studies program and a graduate program in public services for the William Jefferson Clinton Presidential Library.
