Frederic Pearl, Ph.D., is Associate Professor at Texas A&M University. He holds tenure in the Department of Liberal Studies on the Galveston campus and holds Graduate Faculty appointments in the Department of Anthropology in College Station, and Marine Sciences in Galveston. His research spans over 25 years on 4 continents, covering Paleolithic Africa, Iron-Age Europe, Viking Age Scandinavia, Lapita and Polynesian phases in Oceania, and both prehistoric and historic archaeology in the United States. He has received numerous honors for his research from the University, including two Awards for Scholarly and Creative Research, and the University’s highest award for outstanding research, service, and teaching, the Riker Award. Nationally, he was recognized as a National Geographic Scholar for his research in Oceania. Dr. Pearl is best known for his geoarchaeological research, contributions to Polynesian cultural chronology, and for the breadth of his geographical areas of expertise. He is presently completing two books; one on the historical development of American Archaeology from 1850 to 1950, and another reassessing Viking Age Europe.
