University of Toledo - Education

Principal at Thinking Habitats (SBA Certified Hub Zone Firm)
Higher Education
Dr. Florian
Feucht
Greater Detroit Area
Dr. Florian – driven by a passion for education and well-grounded in his expertise of educational psychology – has fully dedicated his services to workforce optimization. Predictably, slipping retention rates and lacking skill capacities can swiftly pull the rug from underneath the economic value of any standing workforce. As a workforce optimizer, Dr. Florian designs comprehensive solutions to effectively and sustainably overcome the diverse problems within existing talent pipelines.

Born into a three-generation family of painters, with broad experiences as a worker in the dairy industry, and as an award-winning educator and researcher for over 15 years, Dr. Florian understands both sides of the coin:
- What it means to be an appreciated, hard-working employee, today and every day; and
- What it takes to train a capable workforce that safeguards a reliable revenue stream.

Dr. Florian has lived and worked on three different continents. He is an engaging speaker, well-published author, and a professor of educational psychology. In his spare time, he enjoys being a competitive rower and backyard birdwatcher.

Publications

  • Personal Epistemology in the Classroom: Theory, Research, and Educational Implications

    Cambridge University Press

This co-edited book focuses on personal epistemology, the study of beliefs associated with knowledge and knowing in the classroom context. A large body of theory and research in personal epistemology has been dedicated to college students but rarely have the epistemic beliefs of children, adolescents, and their teachers been thoroughly examined. This book incorporates both theoretical and empirical work pertaining to personal epistemology as it specifically relates to learning and instruction. Bringing together leading research on pre-school through to high school students' personal epistemology, it re-examines existing conceptual frameworks, introduces new models, provides an empirical foundation for learning and instruction, and considers broader educational implications. In addition, the contributors stress how personal epistemology issues in the classroom need to be more carefully investigated and understood. Bendixen, L. D. & Feucht, F. C. (Eds.). (2010). Personal epistemology in the classroom: Theory, research, and educational implications. New York, NY: Cambridge University Press.
