D’improvviso da immobile s’illumina is a concerto for bass clarinet
two orchestras
piano
and percussion
that I composed during my graduate studies at Florida International University in Miami. The work is approximately 16 minutes long and is scored for 30 independent instrumental parts in addition to the bass clarinet soloist. Although the piece does not incorporate electronics
electronic music was a major influence in its creation
and the computer was used extensively as a compositional tool. In addition
the writings of Henry Cowell and the music of Sofia Gubaidulina influenced the concerto in a number of ways. While writing this work
I had to discover new ways to allow pure instinct to intermingle with strict calculation. This paper will discuss in detail the various techniques used in the creation of the concerto as well as some of the works that influenced it.

This essay came about as a result of the desire to study and collect the guitar\nmusic of Franco Margola. Franco Margola composed over 450 works for guitar
most of\nwhich are unpublished and virtually all of which are unknown to most guitarists. This\nessay focuses on Margola’s chamber works with guitar
which include some of his best\ncompositions. The study contains historical background information
an ample biography
\nas well as an overview of the currently published works for solo guitar. The main portion\nof the essay consists of an outline and an annotated catalog of all of Margola’s chamber\nworks with guitar
including the unedited works. The purpose of this project is to promote\nMargola’s guitar music by providing current information on its quality
availability
\ncondition
length
and difficulty level.

PolyRhythmia: a journey. In this 37-minute tour de force
the dancers shape the space on a journey through harmony and dissonance and explode with athletic prowess. While created with the specific intent to be void of narrative or character
ironically PolyRhythmia creates a very human experience
as well as a vibrating conversation between movement and music through a host of polyrhythmic
eurythmic
isorhythmic and even arrhythmic variations
to negotiate a resolution—a final moment of apparent order.
