Nelson
Racine, Wisconsin
HR professional specializing in strategy and design consulting with a focus on leveraging a deep understanding of our corporation, teams, and culture. Growing knowledge of enterprise-level data warehouses and data models and languages, like DAX, has optimized my passion for designing business intelligence dashboards (Power BI) to help leaders become citizen data scientists who are empowered to explore their teams' data to help inform decision-making. Emphases include projects that advance the corporate culture of employee engagement, leadership development, employee inclusion, and employee learning. Experienced in process improvement which aligns technology to people (not the other way around) and consults on workforce analytics, specializing in engagement metrics. Helped found SharePoint Users Group and enjoys technology coaching. Educational focus on multi-cultural issues and experience working in troubled urban neighborhoods has fostered a passion for work that helps diverse audiences work together respectfully to solve tough challenges.
Adjunct Assistant Professor of Religion
Joined full-time faculty in fall 2002 and taught writing-intensive night courses on Christian Ethics and World Religions. Christian ethics course looked at ethics through the lens of storytelling/narrative and focused on issues such as food ethics, local sourcing, modern educational design, and women's issues. In the fall of 2013 a course he designed, American Dreams and Prophetic Visions, looked at ethical issues in human development and organizational design through the lens of ancient prophets and modern dystopian writers.
Background Artist
Appeared in the funeral scene of "The Dark Knight." For our tenth wedding anniversary (the Bat anniversary, by the way), we snuck onto Christopher Nolan's Chicago movie set. We were fortunate enough to be in the part of the crowd right behind where Nolan and (cinematographer) Wally Pfister set up their camera to film Anthony Michael Hall's news coverage of the commissioner's funeral. We were directed to look straight ahead (direction several narcissistic extras clearly didn't follow). Even so, at 59 mins 57 seconds into the film my wife and I are easily identifiable.
The Dark Knight made over $1 billion worldwide. Tom Cruise has never been in a movie that made more than $700 million.
Organization Change and Learning Consultant
In addition to corporate learning and development strategy and improvement, I facilitated Northwestern Mutual's business learning program, talent metrics strategy, and our corporate partnership with Gallup to study and improve employee engagement.
Instructional Designer/Business Analyst
Worked with Human Resources on training rollouts and solution design. Led corporate-wide training and communication strategy for Human Resource platform rollout and played creative role in several IS Human Resource’s people management initiatives. Remaining customer-focused, I have offered unique technical counsel on the usability and verified the processes we were identifying in training were as user-friendly as possible.
