Journey

Edward Journey is an artist, educator, and administrator with a broad range of experience in professional theatre and higher education. As a theatre artist/administrator he has worked with professional regional theatres throughout the United States.
As a freelance artist and stage manager, he toured with and directed touring productions. Directing credits feature contemporary and avant-garde works ranging from Gertrude Stein and Samuel Beckett to Sam Shepard and Kia Corthron and also include Shakespeare, Chekhov, musical theatre, and theatre for young audiences.
Since 2002 Edward has been on the faculty of Alabama A&M University. He has taught at Oakwood University (AL); Calhoun Community College (AL); Galveston College (TX); the University of Southern Indiana; Longwood University (VA); The University of Alabama; and other institutions.
He has written and presented critical and scholarly papers and workshops on a number of topics. His articles on artists William Christenberry and Walker Evans are available in the Encyclopedia of Alabama. He has a special research interest in the plays and literary experiments of Gertrude Stein.
Edward is on the editorial board of "Southern Theatre" magazine and his on-line journal, "Professional Southerner," is available at www.professionalsoutherner.com. He has recently been published in Arkansas Review, Southern Theatre, and Theatre Symposium.
Edward holds a Bachelor of Arts degree in political science with a concentration in political theory from the University of Alabama. He earned his Master of Fine Arts degree in theatre (directing) from the University of Alabama.
