I work as an Associate Professor of Spanish (Linguistics) at Kansas State University, in Manhattan, Kansas, the self-proclaimed "Little Apple". I study language variation in Spanish from a quantitative framework and employ the programming language R in virtually all my research. I teach linguistics and Spanish language courses in support of my department's MA and BA programs. Aside from Spanish and linguistics, my interests include sports (especially tennis, table tennis, cycling, and swimming), traveling, computer scripting both for research and for fun, and staying informed of current events (especially as delivered by National Public Radio). Spending time with family is also an important activity for me, as I agree with what a wise man once said: "No other success can compensate for failure in the home."
