Cree
Saskatoon, Saskatchewan, Canada
Duncan Cree received his Bachelor of Engineering in Mechanical Engineering with a specialty in Aerospace and Vehicle Systems from Concordia University in 1999. During this time, he worked two summer internships at Pratt & Whitney Canada as a Junior Engineer on various projects. After graduation he worked two years as a Junior Airworthiness Engineer for the National Research Council Canada’s Institute for Aerospace Research, Flight Research Laboratory. He then returned to pursue his M. Eng. in Mechanical Engineering at Concordia University and graduated in 2003. Between his studies he worked one summer at Bombardier (Defense Services), now L-3 Communication MAS. Following his Masters degree, he earned a Ph.D. in Mechanical Engineering in 2009 under the supervision of Professor Martin Pugh at Concordia University where he studied the manufacturing and characterization of a new light-weight, three-dimensional, cellular aluminum/silicon carbide metal filled ceramic. Subsequently, he was awarded the Natural Sciences and Engineering Research Council of Canada (NSERC) Post-Doctoral Fellowship (PDF) to work under the direction of Professor Mark Green at Queen’s University in the Department of Civil Engineering. The research involved evaluation of high temperature strengths of carbon fibre reinforced polymer composites under steady-state and transient regimes. Following he landed a three year contract as an Assistant Professor in the Department of Civil Engineering at Queen’s University which will terminate in August 2014.
Dr. Cree is a registered Professional Engineer in the Province of Québec and Ontario.
Research interests:
Sustainable materials; fibre reinforced polymer composite; natural fibres/bio-based polymer resin composites; materials testing and micro-structural characterization.
Part-Time Faculty Instructor-Dept. Of Mechanical Engineering
Lectured one engineering course twice to undergraduates and graduate students on Manufacturing of Metals and Plastics.
Assistant Professor-Dept. Of Civil Engineering
Is currently conducting research on the production, characterization and elevated temperature durability behavior of natural flax fibre/bio-resin composites. Presently he teaches one undergraduate and one graduate course related to Advanced Civil Engineering Materials.
