I feel like I'm really good at chem, but this was the hardest I've ever taken. It required long hours of studying, lots of work, bi-weekly exams, not to mention that it's also a struggle to get an A on exams. He includes things he never even discussed and he expects you to know every bit of it. He will do everything to help, so be prepared to live in his office.
Awesome
Dr. J is a really awesome professor, his lectures can be long, however I have taken him twice, and have enjoyed every minute of them. The tests are difficult, but nothing is a surprise on them because he teaches you everything that's on them. He loves to watch his students develop, and enjoys answering questions, so attend his office hours, and ask questions.
Awful
I was so frustrated when I didn't pass this class. I could never get above a C on his tests, no matter how hard I tried. I went to his office hours, even stayed late after class, and attended every tutoring session. I showed him that I cared and that I was serious about passing this class. I needed a 65 percent on the final to pass, but I only got a 60 percent.
Awesome
Professor McKeachie grades the laboratory class very generously. Every single thing you miss only takes away .1 point. And everyone who tried gets from 9.5 over 10 to 10 over 10.
Awesome
Doctor McKeachie really cares about your success. However, this is a hard course. You can't skate past without understanding everything because the tests require explanations of concepts. His lectures were very informative. However, I personally found her classes to be overly explanatory or complicated. On the other hand, for the quarantine online course, this is the best decision you can make.
Awful
Avoid Doctor. McKeachie at all costs if you value your sanity. Despite appearing amiable outside the classroom, his tests are outrageously difficult and unfairly constructed. Expect questions on material not covered in lectures. Even as a pre-med student maintaining a perfect GPA, his exams feel designed to thwart success. The frustration he induces extends beyond mere dislike for the course; it's a disdain for life itself. Spare yourself the agony and steer clear of his class.
Good
This professor is knowledgeable about Chemistry. He wants his students to learn. However, his class is very tough, and his tests are unbelievably hard too. The tests aren't multiple choice and are based on what you learn. The trick is, that questions from the class notes never repeat in the tests. So, there's no escaping using multiple choice. Unfortunately, only two students are expected to get As.
