Had fun teaching Public Speaking with some great students. They included student athletes in various sports at the D2 level; international students from Saudi Arabia
Wales
England
China
Serbia
Ukraine
Togo and Canada; and students from the inner urban areas of New York City and from farms in the most rural areas of Ohio. I love it when I get to chat with students after class
learning about who they are and the ones from abroad ask me all kinds of questions about my country. The most fun is to see a shy nervous student gain confidence in speaking before others. \n\nA major change in the University's General Education curriculum drastically reduced the number of class sections offered
with available sections assigned on a seniority basis.

Working with community college students ranging in ages 15-35 to build their self-confidence through building their skills in communication and public speaking.\n\nI use a variety of pedagogical tools
including group activities
humor and media
to engage students
helping them to overcome fears associated with face-to-face communication.

Taught classes in Public Speaking
Small Group Communication and Interpersonal Communication. I also advised the student group
Students in Free Enterprise (SIFE)
which is now known as Enactus.\n\nDuring my time at Owens
I introduced scores of students to the virtual world of Second Life. I was highly impressed when one student studying Criminal Justice addressed the class about his experience in Second Life comparing law enforcement practices with a law officer who lived in Germany. A colleague and I also did an academic presentation in Second Life from the Owens campus. Our audience members included two academic professionals who were sitting in their offices in Beijing
China.
