Dr. Douglas
Stewart
Greater Nashville Area, TN
I have been afforded, during my history serving in administration, as an academic leader and faculty member, opportunities to work with students concerning their academic challenges, life skills development and barriers in life which challenge their persistence and post-secondary goals when matriculating to the college or university setting. One of my greatest passions is to be instrumental in helping others achieve their goals. This is extremely rewarding to me both personally and professionally when students persist to graduation and I have been able to assist them in their journey. Students are often challenged with circumstances requiring experience in life beyond their years. I believe “relationship management” in higher education is one of the most critical pieces of the total engagement and immersion with which the 21st century student finds difficulty dealing with the rigors of their academic program and personal lives. I have the skill set and interest to encourage students to stay-the-course and remain motivated on the journey to their goals.
Similarly, I serve with administrators who are both highly prepared academically and brilliant leaders which has as informed my own initiatives as I seek to be innovative in my classroom and administrative practices. Faculty and staff are likewise challenged when melding the procedural and content processes of the classroom and administrative needs to assure all students are aligned with the policies and standards of the school. My strength as an academic leader, faculty member and catalyst for change has been to engage the global context of the needs of all stakeholders and facilitate a healthy journey culminating in positive outcomes. I believe this is my strength and applies to all areas of the framework of higher education.

In this position, I work with all general education faculty and students taking classes in general education content areas. I also teach two classes. Some of the classes I teach are: Ethics, Environmental Science, Physical Anthropology, and Information Literacy.
I also encourage and work with faculty regarding professional development and use of technology and conduct in-classroom evaluations twice a year for each faculty member so we can discuss how we may better grow ourselves as classroom leaders and emerge in the newest cutting edge practices in all content areas.
Additionally, I manage the Learning Resource Center which serves the research needs of the total campus and includes the use of Cybrary data bases. Tutoring is also offered through the Learning Resource Center.
The work I perform when coordinating the campus online initiative beginning in 2013 involves enrollment, management and tutoring all students engaged in online classes.
Associate Professor - Adjunct
I instructed many currently practicing professionals in the field of Interior Design. Through a hands-on approach of learning and a complete understanding of students’ abilities, several former students now teach Interior Design. My experience teaching more than sixteen years allowed me to gain valuable insight into students learning abilities, as I introduced the best possible strategic assessments and strategies in my classrooms. I trained in "best practices" and applied what I learned to engage and encourage student learning.
