Decades of research on social change in rural western India. Strong interest in villagers' family histories, in changes caused by irrigation and cash cropping, in the formation of new cooperative and educational institutions (mainly in the period from about 1885 to 1985)
Working now with Shanti George on a book focused on changing inequalities in rural India. We consider inequalities of wealth, gender, education, caste, etc.
Decades of collaboration with my former mentor and friend, B.S. Baviskar, who was Professor and Head of the Department of Sociology at DSE, Delhi University.
