Flippo
Dave Flippo's eclectic education and experience includes work in a number of musical styles: traditional and contemporary jazz, world music, classical and popular. He hold a Doctorate and Masters in Music Composition from the University of Michigan and the Eastman School of Music and has built a career in Chicago as a performer/composer, teacher and recording artist. He has recorded four CD's of primarily original music with his two original Chicago-based jazz ensembles "Flippomusic" and "The Dave Flippo Group." His self-named style of music -"Globaljazz" focuses on blending jazz with a multitude of cultural styles the world over. He is a music instructor at Triton College and of jazz and classical piano instructor at the College of Lake County (Grayslake), in his home studio in Skokie and in the home throughout the North Shore. He was a veteran instructor at the Swain Music Studios until 2010. Dave also performs as a pianist/vocalist for private funtions as a soloist or in small ensembles. He is married to Melissa Leeb and has two children, Gabriel and Gillian....and a dog named Biscuit.

Studied composition with Warren Benson and Robert Morris while at school. Audited several world music classes and added Indian music theory to my composition lessons with Dr. Morris. Studied classical piano with Rebeca Penneys.

This wonderful writer's workshop helps foster the talents of amateur, semi-pro and professional composers, lyricists, book writers in the area of musical theatre. It is lead by two highly gifted "advisors" or "directors" --John Sparks and Allan Chambers--that give piercing insights into the work and help all involved progress upon the path toward craftsmanship and successful creative expression. Just look how good I wrote this here paragraph!

I was taking AP courses in English and History and getting into Physics, but mainly did music- was President of the Choir, in Baldwinaires (small acapella choir) Concert Band, Jazz band and Marching Band.

Book and Lyrics: Marie Yuen, Music: Dave Flippo. Retelling of 's Rostand "Cyrano de Bergerac" from Roxane's point of view set in the period with some contemporary elements blended in. Music blends and justaposes Baroque (and other Classical Styles) with jazz styles. Staged Reading, Oct. 2007, Theatre Building Chicago. Full length Musical.
"Amelia"
Lyrics: Lynn Sanders, Music: Dave Flippo, Book: Chloe Bolan. The untold story of Amelia Earhart's--how a mediocre pilot achieve such success; the men under her spell; what series of events led to her final flight. The music blends jazz styles from the 30"s with modern styles.
