Awesome
Doctor Hixson is an amazing professor. He offers you tons of extra credit opportunities on your non cumulative exams. He doesn't record attendance. Every week, there is a map quiz which is pretty easy if you take time to study. He is an understanding professor and you can tell that he enjoys lecturing. I would honestly recommend taking him.

Professor Hixson is very interesting and engaging, it made it feel the time go by quickly in his class. Also, you do not need to bring the book to class, but be sure to take notes!

Biographical Sketch
Dr. David Hixson has over 25 years of professional archaeological experience in both the public and private sector. With a Ph.D. in anthropological archaeology from Tulane University, Hixson has conducted archaeological excavations from the Midwest to the Mid-Atlantic and beyond. While his academic research revolves around archaeological remote sensing of the Yucatan peninsula of Mexico, he has directed and/or participated in Phase I, Phase II, and Phase III archaeological projects in Illinois, Missouri, Kansas, Iowa, Louisiana, West Virginia, Pennsylvania, Virginia, Maryland, and our nation’s capital of Washington D.C.
Recently Dr. Hixson has branched out through his educational program at Hood College, MD, to embrace community-based archaeology. His multi-season field school at Belle Grove plantation (co-directed with Matthew Greer), along with his volunteer excavations assisting Hood College students perform public-service excavations for our local historic districts, are aimed at not only instructing students on proper techniques, but also to foster a new generation of stewards and public representatives for our shared cultural heritage.
Dr. Hixson also works at another CESU institution, Shepherd University in West Virginia, where he works closely with the History department to fulfill similar community-based projects, all with an emphasis upon increasing awareness of archaeological opportunities through partnerships with underfunded government programs such as the National Parks Service and the Department of Natural Resources.
