I am a scholar of international relations
security studies
the history of the modern Middle East and North Africa and the United States
political economy
terrorism
and globalization. I am currently completing a book manuscript titled
\"Oil Money: Middle East Petrodollars and the Transformation of US Empire
1967–1988
\" which is contracted for publication with Cornell University Press in its “The United States in the World” series. I conduct research in Arabic
English
and French language sources. \n\nMy research has obtained support from seven competitive grants
including the Harvard Belfer Center for Science and International Affairs Ernest May Fellowship
the Dartmouth Dickey Center US Foreign Policy and International Security Post-Doctoral Fellowship
and the Society for Historians of American Foreign Relations Dissertation Completion Fellowship. I have had articles published in the Diplomatic History
History & Memory
and the Oxford Research Encyclopedia of American History
among others.\n\nI also have extensive college level teaching experience. As an educator
I focus upon three primary goals: to model to my students how studying international relations and history provides context and perspective for understanding the world; to strengthen the skills of students in recognizing and deconstructing discourses and arguments; and to teach students how to better construct their own arguments using evidence and logic.
